Adoption Program in Ethiopia
Program Overview
- Heartsent Adoptions, Inc. works closely with our network agency in Ethiopia. Together we provide a personal and committed process of adoptions with staff that included adoptive parents themselves and are dedicated to making your process as smooth as possible. Ethiopia is open to adoptions at this time, but it is experiencing some delays as the system of adoption catches up with the greater demand in recent years.
- The children available for adoption are 6 months to 14 years of age. Both boys and girls are available for adoption, and there are many sibling groups. First time parents should be open to gender. The children are generally healthy, and are tested for communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, VDRL, Parasites and Hepatitis. Special needs children are also available.
- Single women and married couples may apply. Couples must be married at least one year. Previous divorce is allowed. At least one parent must be a U.S. citizen.
- Prospective adoptive parents must be at least 25 years of age. Those 25-49 may adopt an infant. Those over 50 may adopt an older child.
- Total costs for adoption from Ethiopia range from $23,000 - $28,000
- Large families can adopt from Ethiopia as long as the family shows sufficient income to support all children.
- Once an initial application is submitted the time frame is approximately 12-24 months to complete an adoption. The timeframe is greatly affected by the age and gender of the child (ren) you are adopting.
- Adoptions from Ethiopia are currently requiring two trips of about 7-10 days each.
Program Updates
Families should expect some delays at this time due to the high demand from adopting parents. Ethiopia continues to monitor and set its process, so it is best to receive the newest information about referral and travel times by contacting Heartsent.
