Date of Birth: December 2021
Gender: Male
Special Needs: Hypothyroidism, Macroglossia (suspected Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome ; BWS)
Come meet Aiden! He has become more cheerful, increasingly willing to engage with peers. He responds more actively and emotionally during interactive games with caregivers and enjoys drawing and playing with volunteers. Aiden has developed a strong interest in picture books, often flipping through the pages and eagerly bringing them to caregivers for story time. During shared reading sessions, he mimics words and asks questions about the stories, showing significant engagement with the content. He also enjoys stimulating activities, such as playing on slides and seesaws, which bring him great joy and laughter.
Aside from congenital hypothyroidism and suspected BWS (macroglossia), his health status shows no significant abnormalities. Starting July 2023, he was receiving language and occupational therapies. In October, 2023, the therapist found him able to understand instructions and had good eye contact so the occupational therapy was ended. In January 2024, his overall language comprehension and expression had caught up with peers of the same age but due to the Macroglossia, the weekly speech therapy sessions were still recommended and are still ongoing. Aiden's macroglossia does not impact his eating or sleeping. The therapist reports that Aiden is articulate, enjoys singing, and can correctly identify name tags from a pile when instructed. Aiden is currently taking medication for hypothyroidism and is expected to stop the medication at the age of three.
