Special Needs: Premature; Low Birthweight
Following her birth Lexa spent one month in the hospital until her physical condition was stable. She then went home with her birth mother and resided with her for about one year. In December 2010, she was placed in the children’s home. The birth parents think that adoption is the best choice for Lexa and hope she will find a forever family that will accept and love her very much.
When Lexa came into care she exhibited developmental delays. This is believed to be due to the lack of stimulation from her early living situation. In February 2015, Lexa was evaluated for the fourth time and it was found that she has a mild mental disability. Currently Lex receives occupational therapy and game treatments. In 2015 Lexa began first grade. Her learning in school is good, but she can get easily distracted in class. She needs frequent reminders from her tutor to finish her homework. Lexa like to participate in the weekend activities planned for her and interacts well with peers her age.
Lexa is described as very friendly and active. She will initiate conversations and can easily establish relationships with others. Lexa enjoys activities that involve singing and playing hide and seek. She also likes riding her bike outside, playing with dolls and drawing.
