Adoption Program in Bulgaria
Heartsent's Bulgaria program is in the process of revision. Call to learn about the status of this program.
Gaining in strength and dependability each year in international adoption circles, BULGARIA is a beautiful choice for adopting families. Located in Southeastern Europe, bordering Romania to the north, Greece and Turkey to the south, the Black Sea to the east, and Serbia and the Republic of Macedonia to the west, Bulgaria offers a well-established Hague program with high standards of care for the children and the adoption process.
Adoption Process
Once the adoptive family completes their home study, they will work on building their dossier. A dossier is a packet of information about the family that will be submitted to Bulgaria’s Central Authority for approval. Once a family has been approved, they are put on Bulgaria’s wait list of available families. Families open to a child four years or younger can expect a wait time of three to four years, while families open to an older child may expect a shorter wait time of two years. Families who match with a waiting child can expect the entire process to take approximately one to two years. While this is a much longer time than most, it is absolutely worth the wait for the child if your dreams! Once you have been matched with your child, you can expect to bring your child home in approximately eight to 10 months.
Travel
Bulgaria requires families to make two trips, each about five to seven days in length. There will be approximately three months in between these two trips. Both trips, Heartsent families will be accompanied by a coordinator to help them the entire trip!
