Welcome to the China Adoption Program
The China Adoption Program
Our China Program is one of our longest standing programs and has helped many of our families expand! Many changes have occurred over time, and right now China adoptions are in flux. China is slowing adoptions from their country for many reasons. This program is currently on hold.
Non-Special Focus designated children are generally younger and/or have less significant special needs. In order to be eligible to adopt a non-special focus child, families must have their dossier already submitted to China.
Special Focus designated children generally have more significant needs and/or are older (7- 8 years of age, child may be healthy, have a medical history, or current medical needs). Children who are designated Special Focus can be adopted by families that do or do not yet have a dossier submitted to China.
Whichever category the child is in will dictate who may adopt that child.
Applicants can expect to wait approximately two or more years from the time of signing up with Heartsent to the time they travel home with their child. Many outside factors influence this time frame including; how quickly a prospective adoptive family collects their documents, the Chinese government processing times, age of child desired, specials needs openness, etc. Families who are open to more medical needs will likely have a much faster process than families who are not.
If you match with a waiting child, or a child who is already available for adoption, a prospective adoptive family can expect to pick up their child about one year after they have been pre-approved by China.
General Eligibility
Please note, there is some leniency regarding these guidelines and we encourage you to call us to discuss your family’s particular situation.
